YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio — Darian Hammond, 9, takes the oath commissioning her as an honorary second leiutenant from Col. Karl McGregor, commander of the 910th Airlift Wing, at the Wing Headquarters building here, as part of the unit's Pilot for a Day program. She was diagnosed with leukemia in 2006 and is the 30th child to particpate in the outreach program that provides a base tour and orientation for children who have life-threatening or chronic illnesses. YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio — Mr. Fred Kubli Jr., treasurer of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station Base-Community Council, has worked closely with Master Sgt. Bryan Ripple, superintendent of the Public Affairs office, since March 1995 to enhance community relations for the wing and promote morale within the unit.  Mr. Kubli began his affiliation with the 910th Airlift Wing in the early 1980's as an original member of the Base-Community Council.  In this photo, Mr. Kubli and Sergeant Ripple worked at the 910th Airlift Wing hospitality tent at Youngstown State University's home opener football game Sept. 8, 2007 at Stambaugh Stadium. In August 1945 Fred Kubli Jr.'s unit was sent to Marseille, France, to board a ship with all their  equipment to head for Japan in anticipation of heavy casualties.  Their ship made it to the Strait of Gibraltar when the war ended in Japan when the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb.  Fred's ship ended up returning to Boston, Mass. U.S. Air Force courtesy photo.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Air Force Reserve increased its numbers by an even dozen during a mass enlistment ceremony held October 4 at the Mahoning County Courthouse, downtown here. Colonel Karl McGregor, commander of the 910th Airlift Wing, based at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, administered the oath of enlistment to the 12 new enlistees during the ceremony held in the courthouse's historic rotunda. The audience was comprised up of family, friends, Reservists from the air station and local media. People passing through the rotunda on business also stopped to observe the event. The gathered crowd congratulated the new enlistees and wished them well as they joined their new military family. Most of the future Citizen Airmen will be assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing. The mass enlistment event, organized by the 910th Recruiting Services Flight,  began with the posting of the colors by the 910th Airlift Wing Honor Guard and concluded with an on-site reception for the attendees. YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- Air Force Reserve Tech. Sgt. Mike Woodall, a member of the 910th Maintenance Squadron, roots on an Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) cadet as she navigates an obstacle course here October 5.  Nearly 40 Air Force JROTC cadets from East and East Tech High Schools in Cleveland, and Green High School in Akron, Ohio received some military mentorship training during an AF JROTC Encampment.

YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio — Todd Reichenbach, a K-9 handler with Summit County Sheriff's office, takes his canine "Ammo" around vehicles leaving here to detect explosives or narcotics.  Last month, eight K-9s  were on duty here to perform explosive and narcotics detection.  The intent of the operation was to be proactive and remind personnel as well as the surrounding community that the installation operates under a no tolerance policy.  In addition, the intent was to deter any individual or group that could intend on trying to bring harm to the installation or its personnel.  Air Force OSI  Special Agent Julie McKee organized the joint canine effort with local law enforcement officials and Youngstown Air Reserve Station officials.  Participating agencies include:  Trumbull Co. Sheriff, Summit Co. Jamie Purola, a communications-computer systems operator, works on the back side of a Basic Access Module (BAM) while on annual tour with the 603rd Air Control Squadron.
