SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany --   On July 5, 2018, a Wright Patterson Air Force Base C-17 Globemaster took off from Youngstown Air Reserve Station’s flightline, carrying approximately 45 910th Airlift Wing Reserve Citizen Airmen on a trip overseas to Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany.

Four 910th AW squadrons and seven 910th AW staff offices tied into their active duty SAB counterparts to represent YARS for the next 15 days while on temporary duty status.

One exception, the 910th AW Finance Office, worked their TDY at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany.

The representing 910th AW squadrons and wing offices at SAB were the 910th Civil Engineering Squadron, 910th Logistics Readiness Squadron, 910th Force Support Squadron, 910th Medical Squadron, 910th Judge Advocate Office, 910th Chaplain’s Office, 910th Safety Office, 910th Public Affairs Office, 910th Command Section and 910th Career Advisor’s Office.

Col. Donald Wren commands the 910th Mission Support Group, which made up the bulk of the wing’s personnel on the trip. 

“The annual training to Germany was a big win for the 910th Airlift Wing and our mission on many levels. We received great training with our active duty partners and we were able to fill critical shortages for the active duty during their peak leave period. The intangible benefit was Airmen from all corners of the wing who were personally unfamiliar with each other, now have made new relationships. These relationships are what allow this wing to function and perform our mission at such a high level.”

On July 19, another WPAFB C-17 brought the Airmen home to YARS.
