Awards banquet recognizes excellent service Published March 6, 2017 By Senior Airman Joshua Kincaid 910th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- The Air Force Reserve prides itself on holding Citizen Airmen to the highest standards. There are some individuals though, who surpass even those heights. The 910th Airlift Wing holds an annual awards banquet to honor and commemorate some of those hardworking, selfless Airmen. The Community Activity Center here played host to more than 175 individuals at this year’s banquet on March 4, 2017, and welcomed a distinguished guest speaker who has a rich history in the Air Force. Retired Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force (CMSAF) Robert D. Gaylor was the fifth CMSAF from 1977 to 1979. As the guest speaker, Gaylor spoke of three main qualities that make a winner: opportunity, aptitude and attitude. Gaylor challenged the attendants to ask themselves what they are doing to prepare for the future, whether they are willing to try new things, and whether they’re a pleasure to be around. “Mentoring others to achieve more than what they thought they were capable of is what Chief Gaylor does,” said Chief Master Sgt. Bob Potts, command chief of the 910th Airlift Wing. “He inspires Airmen to greatness.” Several of those inspired Airmen subsequently received their recognition. The First Sergeant of the year award went to Master Sgt. Joel Commins of the 910th Security Forces Squadron. The Airman of the year award went to Senior Airman James Read of the 910th SFS. The Noncommissioned Officer of the year award went to Tech. Sgt. William Unverdorben of the 76th Aerial Port Squadron. The Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the year award went to Master Sgt. Marvin Hall of the 910th Medical Squadron. The Company Grade Officer of the year award went to Capt. Nicholas Megyesi of the 910th SFS. “We have fantastic Airmen doing fantastic things around the wing,” said Potts. “This gives us an opportunity as leadership to recognize those spectacular performers.”
