910 FSS Airman receives distinguished awards Published June 17, 2013 By Staff Sgt. Megan Tomkins 910 AW/PA YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- Senior Airman Daniel Chrest, 910th Force Support Squadron (FSS) services journeyman, recently received three distinguished awards for his standout performance in his career field and for his time at Airman Leadership School (ALS) at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla. Two of his awards came from his hard work and leadership skills during his time at ALS. The first was for being a distinguished honor graduate and the second was for the John L. Levitow Award. "The awards are based on peer points, grades, briefings and instructor input," said Chrest. "My peers rated my leadership highly and recognized that I cared about their success in the course. We did quite a few study groups and team building exercises. I also volunteered to do after hours critiquing of paperwork and briefings to my classmates. My focus is always on service before self. I try to live by that motto." Chrest said he was humbled by earning both of those awards and is grateful he had the opportunity to be a flight leader and represent Youngstown Air Reserve Station (YARS). "It means more than anything to me to support others," said Chrest. "I had pre-knowledge of ALS because of the distance learning course. I believe that helped me and others. I was passionate about helping my fellow Airmen graduate. I was also excited to hear the instructors were impressed that I am a Reservist." The third award Chrest won was the Air Force Reserve Command John L. Hennessy Award for Excellence in Foodservice for 2012. "The Hennessey Award is won through effectively, safely and efficiently erecting a field feeding kitchen and operating out of it to serve customers in a sanitary and effective manner," said Chrest. "Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the formal event to receive this award in Chicago during the National Convention because I was attending Airman Leadership School." Although this is the first time Chrest has been publicly recognized for his excellence, YARS Reservists have seen his unwavering service to the military and his desire to put service before self. "Senior Airman Chrest is one of the sharpest Airmen I have had the pleasure of working with," said Maj. Tom Latsko, acting 910th FSS commander. "These three recent recognitions add to his long list of accomplishments in his short Air Force career."
