William Phillips as its new commander at an assumption of command ceremony July 7, 2012, here. Phillips has 21 years of experience with C-130s and is coming to Youngstown Air Reserve Station from Air Force Reserve Command Current Operations. Prior to working at AFRC, he attended the Army War College in Pennsylvania. He said he is looking forward to getting to work with C-130's again for the first time in five years, not only for the birds, but for the camaraderie that comes with the C-130 family. "One thing I noticed when I got here was how much I missed the people that flew Hercs," said Phillips. "They seem to enjoy what they are doing when they work with the 130s." Col. Reinhard Schmidt, 910th Airlift Wing commander, was stationed with Phillips before and said he is confident that he will succeed at YARS. "Col. Phillips has a long experience with C-130's," said Schmidt. "With his experience and expertise, we look forward to having him as the commander of the Operations Group."
