U.S. Air Force Reserve Maj. Rick Basting assumed command of the 910th Communications Squadron (CS) during a change of command ceremony June 2, 2012, here.

"I'm honored to take command of an outstanding unit," Basting said. "Comm. has high standards and performs at a great level of success."

Basting was a member of CS prior to assuming command. Col. Teresa Hams, 910th Mission Support Group commander, said Basting has an advantage because he knows the job so well.

"Thankfully we have an equally great officer coming in," Hams said. "He has a background and talent that will help with future technology in the cyber world. We are looking forward to seeing what he can do in the future of the squadron."

Outgoing CS commander, Lt. Col. Peter Milkovich, said he also believes that Basting will do well in his new roll.

"He'll keep it running smoothly," Milkovich said. "He has 20 years in Comm.; it's in his blood."

Basting said he wants to make sure the baton isn't dropped as the responsibility is passed to him.

"We will increase competence and embrace the cyber mission," Basting said. "And to all of you (CS)--I know you will continue to adhere to the Air Force Core Values: Integrity First, Service Before Self and Excellence in All We Do as we Fly, Fight and Win in Air, Space and Cyberspace."
