RAV-2 prepares 910th Airmen for inspection Published May 16, 2012 By SSgt. Brenda Haines 910AW/PA Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio -- Youngstown Air Reserve Station (YARS) Exercise Evaluation Team (EET) members geared up for a successful Operational Readiness Inspection (ORI) by deploying May 7-12 to Alpena, Mich., to help prepare the wing to execute combat readiness skills. During the 6-day exercise, known as RAV-2, the EET helped identify the wing's strengths and weaknesses so it can be better prepared for the ORI, scheduled for June 16-23, 2013. ORIs are conducted to evaluate and measure the ability of a unit to perform in wartime, during a contingency or a force sustainment mission, according to Air Force Instruction 90-201, Inspector General Activities. Basically, ORIs test Airmen on what they do everyday -- only with a twist -- they will operate in a simulated chemical environment while under enemy attack at an undisclosed forward operating location. RAV-2 helps give Airmen the tools necessary for successful completion of the inspection. "RAV-2 enables our wing to train and evaluate the full spectrum of our wartime mission," said Lt. Col. Thomas B. Elsea, provisional planning officer for the 134th Air Expeditionary Wing (AEW), locally known as the "warlord." The 134th AEW will consist of YARS Airmen working alongside their Air National Guard counterparts from the 152nd Airlift Wing, Reno, Nev. RAV-2 tests the wing's ability to deploy and evaluate their survival and operational skills while they complete their mission. "RAV-2 (is) the foundation on which we improve our processes in preparation for our mandated Operational Readiness Inspection," he said.
