Wing commander offers Wingman training to troops Published Feb. 6, 2012 By Maj. Colleen VanNatta 910AW/PA YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- 910th Airlift Wing airmen joined together to reinforce their commitment to being resilient team members and reliable wingmen. During a wing commander's call here, Feb. 4, 910th Airlift Wing Commander, Col. Reinhard Schmidt stressed the need for airmen to remain resilient by recognizing and nurturing each area of their lives: Mental, Physical, Relationships and Spiritual. "If any area of your life is out of balance," Col. Schmidt said, "you become less resilient and I urge you to reach out to your fellow airmen, seek out available resources... and remember we are family here." The YARS team broke out in small groups the following day to discuss these concepts in depth and spend time reading scenarios and role playing. Facilitators led their groups in discussions about stress, resiliency and what it means to be a good wingman. Groups also discussed resources available to them in dealing with problems, which included (but were not limited to) chaplains, mental health and Military OneSource (www.militaryonesource.mil, 1-800-342-9647). "I had no idea Military OneSource offered so many resources from how to fight fair and counseling resources to grieving packets and help with taxes," said Master Sgt. Lori Delillo, a group facilitator for the wingman training. "I remembered wingman training from last year and didn't think I needed to attend again," said Technical Sgt. Dennis Kilker. "I was mistaken. I'm glad we had the breakout session. We have some really unique situations in the Air Force and it reminded me we're not alone."
