Learning to survive and operate Published Jan. 10, 2012 By Maj. Brent J. Davis 910th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- Members of the 910th Airlift Wing were given training Jan. 7 and 8 here on the proper procedures of inspecting, wearing and doffing the M50 mask and chemical protective overgarment in preparation for an Operational Readiness Inspection (ORI) scheduled for the Spring of 2013. According to AFPAM 10-100 Airman's Manual, the M50 mask allows more than 24 hours of continuous protection against chemical or biological agents and radioactive particulate matter. The ORI is given approximately every five years to evaluate Airmen's ability to survive and operate in a wartime environment. The M50 mask replaced the outdated MCU-2A/P protective mask that were in service since the first Gulf War. Members of the 910th participating in the ORI will receive specialized training throughout the year and leading up to the inspection.
