REAL ID requirement for visitor access Published May 1, 2025 By Staff Report 910th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- Starting May 7, 2025, all visitors to Youngstown Air Reserve Station will be required to present a REAL ID-compliant identification card for base entry in addition to current entry procedures. This change is directed by DHS and the DoD and applies to all federal facilities. What is a REAL ID? A REAL ID is a federally accepted form of identification that meets increased security standards. It is marked by a star in the upper right-hand corner of your driver's license or state-issued identification card. Who is affected? This requirement applies to all visitors to YARS who do not possess a valid Department of Defense ID card, such as: Family members of military personnel Friends visiting YARS Contractors and vendors Delivery personnel Who is not affected? Military personnel, their dependents with military IDs and individuals with a Common Access Card or federal government-issued Personal Identity Verification Card are not affected by this change. Why is this happening? The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005, mandates minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. Visitors without a REAL ID-compliant identification after May 7, 2025, will need to present an alternative form of identification for entry, including: U.S. Passport or Passport Card U.S. Military ID (active duty, retiree, dependent) Veteran’s Health Identification Card Transportation Worker Identification Card Birth Certificate (original with raised seal) AND Social Security Card How can I get a REAL ID?
