Starting May 7, 2025, all visitors to Youngstown Air Reserve Station will be required to present a REAL ID-compliant identification card for base entry in addition to current entry procedures. This change is directed by DHS and the DoD and applies to all federal facilities.

What is a REAL ID?

A REAL ID is a federally accepted form of identification that meets increased security standards. It is marked by a star in the upper right-hand corner of your driver's license or state-issued identification card.

Who is affected?

This requirement applies to all visitors to YARS who do not possess a valid Department of Defense ID card, such as:

  • Family members of military personnel
  • Friends visiting YARS
  • Contractors and vendors
  • Delivery personnel

Who is not affected?

Military personnel, their dependents with military IDs and individuals with a Common Access Card or federal government-issued Personal Identity Verification Card are not affected by this change.

Why is this happening?

The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005, mandates minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. This initiative enhances security at federal facilities and across the Nation. More information is available here: https://www.dhs.gov/real-id

What if I don't have a REAL ID?

Visitors without a REAL ID-compliant identification after May 7, 2025, will need to present an alternative form of identification for entry, including:

  • U.S. Passport or Passport Card
  • U.S. Military ID (active duty, retiree, dependent)
  • Veteran’s Health Identification Card
  • Transportation Worker Identification Card
  • Birth Certificate (original with raised seal) AND Social Security Card

How can I get a REAL ID?

To obtain a REAL ID, visit your state's driver's licensing agency website to learn about specific documentation requirements and schedule an appointment.
