YARS Airmen participate in annual Sexual Assault Prevention and Response training Published Nov. 3, 2014 By Tech. Sgt. Valerie Smock 910th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- Citizen Airmen and Department of Defense (DOD) civilians assigned here took part in the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Stand Down Day during the September Unit Training Assembly. The training is an annual requirement designed to help the service members and civilians better understand sexual assault and how to prevent the issue. According to the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO) website, there is a strategy and a plan behind the training. The site says the reason for the training is simple. It is designed to ensure the DOD executes proactive and comprehensive sexual assault prevention programs in order to enable military readiness and reduce--with a goal to eliminate--sexual assault from the military. Members at the installation participated in a wing-wide Commander's Call as part of the training, where they heard the statistics about sexual assault incidents. Following the Commander's Call, the members broke up into small groups for discussion. "The biggest thing I want people to get from the training is to take care of our own," said Tech. Sgt. Kalee K. Lint, executive assistant to the 910th Airlift Wing Command Chief and SAPR training instructor. "I want them to know the precautions to take and possible preventative measures to keep this from happening. Collectively as a group, we need to ban this issue and demand zero tolerance." Shelly R. Trimble, the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) and Behavioral Health Support Coordinator, is one person who Airmen or civilians at YARS can go to for help. Concerns can also be discussed with commanders, first sergeants, medical providers, Behavioral Health, the SAPR Victim Advocate and the Chaplain's office.
