A group of Air Force Reservists assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing based at nearby Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony of a new, $1.3 million Veterans Resource Center on the campus of Youngstown State University (YSU) here, Sept. 26, 2014.

The event was attended by 910th Airlift Wing commander, Col. James Dignan, 910th Force Support Squadron Maj. Dustin Pawlak and several other wing members. The 910th Airlift Wing Base Honor Guard supported the event by presented the colors for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The new center is designed to expand and enhance services for military veterans and active military making the transition to student life at YSU.

YSU's Office of Veterans Affairs will be headquartered in the new building, which includes a computer lab, community room/study lounge, a recreational lounge equipped with a 55-inch flat screen TV and gaming systems and kitchenette.

The office will offer monthly programming and services to student veterans and active military students covering topics such as resume writing, job interview techniques, mental health care and veterans' benefits.

The 910th's commander was impressed by the center, the only facility of its kind in Ohio, and what it could mean for the wing's Citizen Airmen who are also current or former students of the university.

"This Vet Center is a great addition to the community," said Dignan. "It will be an important resource for our Airmen who are going to school here now or are alumni of YSU."

Servicemembers assigned to YARS who are also students or alumni of YSU are encouraged to utilize the new facility.
