New Mission Support Group leader ready for the challenge Published June 17, 2014 By Senior Airman Rachel Kocin 910th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- U.S. Air Force Reserve Col. Kevin Riley accepted command of the 910th Mission Support Group (MSG) during an assumption of command ceremony here, May 7, 2014. As MSG commander, Riley has operational control of the largest 910th group, consisting of more than 600 Airmen. The squadrons under his command include Logistics Readiness, Civil Engineer, Security Forces, Aerial Port, Force Support and Communications. Riley boils the task of managing so many personnel and squadrons down to a simple concept. "Integrity, it's about character, that's what we're about," said Riley. "Technical competence is important, but it's character, especially when no one's looking," said Riley. The Air Force core values of integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do resonate well with the new leader. "The greatest enemy of the United States is this four letter word called self. When it's more important about me or my, the cause is lost," he said. Riley was chosen from a pool of 12 candidates. Several members of Riley's family and close friends, including his wife of 29 years, Wendy, were present for the ceremony. Col. James D. Dignan, 910th Airlift Wing commander, commented on the sense of family shared at YARS, and noted the importance of family support in Riley's life. "Without his family and friends, he couldn't do what he does; he couldn't have this history of excellence of service," said Dignan. While welcoming Riley to Youngstown, Dignan quipped on what Riley needs to do to win over each squadron he now commands. "The challenge is on," said Riley.
