U.S. Air Force Reserve 1st Lt. Nathan Lowman, officer in charge of the maintenance operations center here, deployed to Southeast Asia in Oct. 2013. When he returned home in April, he arranged a surprise reunion with his daughter Teagan and wife Cindy.
Lowman sent his wife and daughter on vacation to Las Vegas for a Corvette driving course. The Lowmans are avid car enthusiasts.

"She (Cindy) rebuilt her '69 Cutlass convertible with her dad and had been around cars pretty much her whole life," said Lowman.

When Lowman's wife and daughter arrived at the driving course May 18, a camera crew for the Today Show pretending they were filming a commercial for the resort, interviewed the family while Lowman waited in a nearby vehicle.

"Well, my husband told us about three weeks ago that we were going on a trip to Las Vegas, and he didn't think he would make it here on time to come with us," said Cindy during her interview.

On the way to Las Vegas, Teagan kept saying she hoped her daddy would make it in time, Cindy said.

"I keep looking at the end goal, and knowing the surprise that she's going to have, the surprise my daughter is going to have, and what it will mean to them," said Lowman.

After the Lowmans' interview, three men wearing helmets to mask their faces were introduced as driving instructors. They removed their helmets one-by-one until the camera crew introduced their newest instructor "Nate." Lowman removed his helmet, and his daughter rushed into his arms ending seven months of separation.

Lowman has served with the U.S. military for 18 years, a career that has seen him on several deployments to Europe and the Middle East. The family found a way to marry their love for cars with military service. They bought a 1992 Chevrolet Corvette and made it into a tribute to Chief Warrant Officer 4 Keith Yoakum, who was killed when the Apache helicopter he was on during combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Lowman family's reunion was featured on a Memorial Day edition of the Today Show.
