Catherine Correa assumed command of the 910th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron during a ceremony here, July 31, 2015. Correa accepted command from Col. David Post, 910th Maintenance Group commander. During the ceremony, Post talked of Correa being an outstanding candidate for the job. “I’m glad to have her. She’s going to be a phenomenal asset to your family, phenomenal commander that is going to be leading the aircraft maintenance unit in the aircraft maintenance squadron,” said Post. During the event, Correa spoke highly of her new coworkers and her eagerness to join them in the squadron. “My door is always open. Come in, talk to me, I’m always here. I’m really looking forward to working with all of you and getting to know you,” said Correa. The assumption of command ceremony is deeply rooted in history and tradition, dating back to the time of Frederick the Great of Prussia. During this period, military organizations developed unique and specialized flags. When Soldiers followed their leaders into battle, and the flag still waved after the conflict, it was a sign of victory. Having this position of great importance, the flag was incorporated into ancient assumption of command ceremonies. The ceremony remains symbolic today.
