Aerial Spray Squadron receives National Center for Infectious Diseases' Partners in Public Health award

Col. Timothy J. Thomson, commander of Air Force Reserve Command's 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, receives the National Center for Infectious Diseases' Parnters in Public Health award from NCID Director Ms. Rima Khabbaz during NCID's 2006 Recognition Awards Ceremony held May 1 at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. The 910th Airlift Wing's Aerial Spray Squadron received the award for its response efforts in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The 910th Airlift Wing's Aerial Spray Squadron is the only full-time, fixed-wing aerial spray capability in the Department of Defense.

Aerial spray team targets Utah test range

– An Air Force Reserve modified C-130H Hercules tactical cargo aircraft, assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing based at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, taxis on the flightline just before take-off for an aerial spray sortie here, March 17, 2015. The 910th’s aircrews flew the aircraft, outfitted with a Modular Aerial Spray System, to the nearby Utah Test and Training Range to spray herbicide, eliminating unwanted ground covering weeds which can obscure target sites and Unexploded Ordinance on bombing ranges. HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah – Air Force Reserve Tech. Sgt. Jeremy Rogers and Tech. Sgt. Tom Kocis, both 910th Airlift Wing Aerial Spray Maintainers, carry a hose to the rear of a modified C-130H Hercules tactical cargo aircraft, assigned to the 910th based at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, on the flightline here in preparation for an aerial spray sortie, March 17, 2015. Rogers, Kocis and other members of the 910th’s Aerial Spray Maintenance Flight are loading the aircraft, outfitted with a Modular Aerial Spray System (MASS), with a herbicide which was sprayed over the nearby Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR), eliminating unwanted ground covering weeds which can obscure target sites and Unexploded Ordinance (UXO) on bombing ranges. AFRC Recruiting Service joins the AFRS

Under the Total Force Initiative, Air Force Reserve Command Recruiting Service has been restructured into the 367th Recruiting Group under Air Force Recruiting Service’s chain of command. The Northern, Eastern, Central and Western reserve recruiting squadrons have been re-designated as the 350th, 351st, 352nd and 353rd Recruiting Squadrons respectively.

After launch at Kelly Field: activity continues at the 910th’s aerial spray ops base

Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. Bart Elsea, mission commander for the 910th Airlift Wing Hurricane Harvey Mosquito Control Aerial Spray Mission watches intently as a specially modified Air Force Reserve C-130 Hercules aircraft, assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing based at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, takes off from the Kelly Field Annex here, Sept. 19, 2017. The aircraft is one of three C-130s conducting mosquito control aerial spray applications over areas of eastern Texas devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Since operations began, this special mission has treated more than 2.3 million acres at the direction of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to assist in recovery efforts by helping contain the significant increase in pest insects caused by large amounts of standing, stagnant water. The 910th Airlift Wing operates the Department of Defense’s only aerial spray capability to control pest insect populations, eliminate undesired and invasive vegetation and disperse oil spills in large bodies of water.
