Warren girl becomes Air Force Reserve honorary pilot

YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio—Air Force Reserve Col. Teresa Hams, commander of the 910th Mission Support Group, swears in 11 year-old Ashley Moorhead of Warren during a commissioning ceremony here. Ashley was sworn in as an honorary Air Force Reserve 2nd Lieutenant and Pilot for a Day May 4, 2011, when she visited the air station for an exciting schedule of events. Ashley is currently receiving treatment for Cerebral Palsy at Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley. The purpose of the Pilot for a Day program is to reach out to the community by providing a fun-filled day of activities to children who live with a chronic or life-threatening disease or illness. The Youngstown Air Reserve Station Base-Community Council is the financial co-sponsor of the program. As part of the program, children are selected to visit the base, receive a genuine aircrew flight suit and other mementos as well as receive an enlightening tour of the base. Included as part of the tour are a visit to the Life Support shop, firing the Fire Arms Training Simulator, a ride on a base fire truck and being taxied aboard a million C-130 Hercules aircraft down the runway.
