YARS radio operator provides communication lifeline to oil spill response

KILN, Miss. — U.S. Air Force Reserve Staff Sgt. Allen F. Mrock, a radio operator with the 910th Communications Flight (CF), conducts an operation check on a ultra-high frequency radio at Stennis International Airport here, May 19, 2010. Sergeant Mrock receives calls from C-130 aerial spray aircraft reporting oil dispersant released and other important mission updates. One of the 910th CF?s missions is to provide total communication support via radio and computer for aerial spray operations. Sergeant Mrock, a traditional Air Force Reservist and U.S. Postal Service employee in Pontiac, Mich., is among more than 50 YARS Reservists that have been deployed to the Gulf of Mexico since May 1, in support of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill cleanup efforts.
