Local boy becomes 56th Pilot for a Day
Pilot for a Day and honorary 2nd Lieutenant Bruce Cellars (left) sits in the crew chief’s chair of a C-130H Hercules aircraft, as U.S. Air Force Reserve Capt. Jonathan Blackann, a 757th Airlift Squadron pilot, explains the controls here, Oct. 30, 2013. Bruce came to Youngstown Air Reserve Station where he was enlisted as the 56th Pilot for a Day and an honorary 2nd Lieutenant. Bruce’s day included a base tour, high-speed taxi down the flight line in a C-130H Hercules aircraft, a tour of the base fire department that included the chance to control a crash response truck water cannon and a Marine Corps Humvee shuttle, provided by the Marine Corps Reserve center here. The 910th Airlift Wing pilot for a day program began in 2000 to help bring a ray of sunshine into the lives of children being treated for chronic or life threatening conditions.
