Grain bin training is first product of Community Partnership Program

A firefighter from a local fire department simulates a victim trapped in a grain storage bin here, Oct. 17. Entrapped in grain up to her waste, the firefighter uses a grain vacuum to remove the grain around her after members of her team constructed a modular metal rescue cylinder to prevent grain from flowing back onto her. As the first product of the Air Force Community Partnership Program at YARS, the Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation worked with the Ohio State Fire Academy to bring their innovative grain bin rescue training platform to YARS, allowing first responders to gain potentially life-saving skills. Approximately 50 firefighters from several local fire departments, including 14 from the 910th Civil Engineer Fire Department here, participated. U.S. Air Force courtesy photo.
