Burggraf becomes 63rd Pilot for a Day
U.S. Navy Lt. Benjamin Sacramento, commanding officer of the Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Youngstown, salutes while leading U.S. Air Force Reserve honorary 2nd Lt. Corbin Burggraf, the 910th Airlift Wing’s 63rd Pilot for a Day, in a piping aboard ceremony. Burggraf’s father George watches from the entryway. For Burggraf’s piping aboard, a member of the Navy staff rang a large bell twice, and another member sounded the pipe. The ceremony comes from a Navy tradition of sounding a bell or pipe to announce the boarding of an officer or dignitary. The Pilot for a Day program welcomes children with life threatening or chronic illnesses to Youngstown Air Reserve Station for a day of fun military experiences. (U.S. Air Force photo/Eric White)
