Forty-eight stars honor veteran on Flag Day

A standard U.S. flag flies above a 48-star U.S. flag purchased by Charles Robert Johnson Jr. who requested it be flown at a U.S. Air Force base and flown aboard an Air Force aircraft in honor of his deceased father, U.S. Air Force Capt. Charles Robert Johnson Sr., a World War II veteran. The flag was flown here on June 14, Flag Day and Johnson Sr.’s birthday. The 48-star version represented the U.S. during WWII. The flag will be flown aboard a 910th Airlift Wing C-130H Hercules aircraft before being returned to Johnson Jr. (U.S. Air Force photo/Eric M. White)
