The 910th Airlift Wing hosted 29 civilian employers of wing Reserve Citizen Airmen and potential employers of Guardsmen or Reservists for a civic leader flight here, April 27, 2018. Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve sponsored the event to build advocacy among employers by demonstrating the work reservists do for the military. A series of low passes over Niagara Falls was the highlight of the event.

The day began with each employer checking in at the installation’s operations building where they talked among each other while enjoying a breakfast provided by a fellow employer, Derek Emerson, who operates the Chick-Fil-A in Howland Commons.

After breakfast, the employers went to the air crew briefing room where they were thanked by Col. Joe Janik, the vice commander of the 910th AW,  treated to a few 910th AW Public Affairs videos and briefed by a representative of ESGR.

Next was a short bus trip to a C-130 for the flight.

All employers were provided hearing protection and brief on safety measures by the loadmasters before takeoff.

Once in the air and stabilized, the employers were free to move around, talk to the aircrew, look out the side windows and visit the flight deck.

When the C-130 approached Niagara Falls, everyone was required to take his or her seat and buckle up. After everyone was secure, the loadmasters opened up the ramp and door of the C-130 so attendees could take in the view. The C-130 made several passes. After the aircraft landed, employers ate lunch at the Community Activity Center here while discussing the flight with crew members.
