910th AW announces 2012 'Of the Year' winners Published March 3, 2013 By Tech. Sgt. Valerie Smock 910th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- The 2012 "Of the Year" award winners were announced March 3 during a ceremony at the Community Activity Center here. The Airmen were recognized for outstanding performance not only in their job but going above and beyond their requirements. "This is a time to recognize the individuals for all their work and accomplishments they've achieved either for the quarter or for the year," said Chief Master Sgt. Rhoades, 910th Airlift Wing Command Chief. "I think that's important. It's one of the ways the wing or supervisor can give back to those members." The quarterly and yearly awards are open to all enlisted personnel and Company Grade Officers. The nominees are selected by their supervisors and commanders to represent their units at a wing level board. The award winners are as follows: Airman of the Year - Senior Airman Matthew Wilcox, Security Forces Squadron NCO of the Year - Tech. Sgt. John Lucas, Security Forces Squadron SNCO of the Year - Master Sgt. Michael Bullard, Security Forces Squadron First Sergeant of the Year - Master Sgt. Robert Fisher, Communications Squadron Company Grade Officer of the Year - Capt. Casey Stedman, 773rd Airlift Squadron Col. Patrick Slattery, 910th Airlift Wing Vice Commander, said the Airman's efforts show their true commitment to the wing. "So much of what we do; we ask you to do things with no promise of reward," Slattery said to the awardees during the ceremony. "We can say, 'we need this done' and you're here because you did it. That is really a truly remarkable thing." Rhoades said hard work and determination is just a small part in the steps to become an award winner. "I think that one of the things we fail to remember is that these people are volunteers," said Rhoades. "They're coming out here and they can just do their job, but these certain individuals excel at their job and are willing to do a little extra or maybe a lot extra that others aren't willing to do." Some of that extra work can be accomplished by working together, which is key for success. "Remember, we are only as good as we are as a team," said Slattery. "So when we take time to recognize people who are doing outstanding work, it makes this all better."
