Click it or Ticket: Day and night

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 27.5 million people still do not buckle up. To ensure motorists are wearing their seat belts, law enforcement officers across the nation will be stepping up their efforts from May 20 to June 2, 2019, to help prevent crash fatalities.

“The NHTSA will be sponsoring a traffic safety initiative called Click it or Ticket,” said Nate Zimmet, a lieutenant with police services/resource protection at the 910th Security Forces Squadron. “The main purpose of the campaign is to encourage the regular use of seatbelts.”

The 910th SFS and the 910th Safety Office will be heightening their efforts around the installation in conjunction with the national seat belt campaign, Click it or Ticket.

“The emphasis is going to be at the gate where we see everybody,” said Lt. Col. Scott D. Stewart,  910th Security Forces Squadron commander.

Zimmet said there will also be 910th SFS personnel located throughout the installation specifically looking for motorists driving without a seat belt.

“There’s no excuse good enough for not buckling up,” said Zimmet.

Zimmet said in 2017, seat belts saved nearly 15,000 lives.

As stated on the NHTSA website, in 2017, there were 12,786 passenger vehicle fatalities in rural locations compared to 10,316 in urban locations.

Zimmet said with YARS located in a rural area, the data collected from 2017 applies to our Reserve Citizen Airmen since their commute to the installation takes them through rural areas.

The national campaign emphasizes that motorists should wear their seat belts both day and night, no matter the distance.
