Airmen assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing, based at nearby Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, supported the Cortland Memorial Day ceremony at the veterans memorial here, May 29, 2023. Aircrew members from YARS performed a flyover in one of the wing’s C-130H Hercules tactical cargo aircraft to mark the start of the ceremony. Staff Sgt. Ken Stray, an Officer Training School candidate assigned to the 910th Force Support Squadron, and Maj. Nathanael Okhuysen, an active-duty Air Force Staff Judge Advocate attached to the 910th Airlift Wing staff, were featured as guest speakers during the ceremony.

The 910th Airlift Wing Base Honor Guard concluded the morning program by conducting a rifle salute and performing a bugle rendition of ‘Taps.’ The ceremony’s focus was honoring the memory of and never forgetting the more than one million American Service members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice of giving their lives in defense of the United States of America. The wing’s strong representation at the ceremony was an example of the partnership that both the 910th and community leaders hoped to achieve as a result of Cortland City Council’s resolution, issued Feb. 21, 2023, declaring the community as a ‘Sister City’ to YARS.

The 910th Airlift Wing participated in several other ceremonies and events across Northeast Ohio to commemorate Memorial Day. Communities in the vicinity of the installation which interested in having the 910th participate in their events may visit the requests page of the YARS website at www.youngstown.afrc.af.mil for more information.
