New commander takes reins of 910th OSS

U.S. Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. Roark D. Endlich assumed command of the 910th Operations Support Squadron (OSS) during a ceremony here,  Dec. 6, 2014.

Col. Bill Phillips, commander of the 910th Operations Group was responsible for selecting the new OSS commander and had specific qualifications in mind for the person who would take the job.

"I was looking for an instructor/evaluator pilot," Phillips said. "Not just a leader but top notch in his job, a mentor. I am looking forward to working with him."

Endlich said that after almost two decades in the military, he didn't see himself in the role of leading a unit.

"I've been in for almost 19 years, I've never dreamed I'd be in command of a squadron," said Endlich.

The new OSS commander indicated previous squadron commanders left big shoes for him to fill.

"Previous commanders set the bar very high, I hope I can live up to it," he said. "This is a phenomenal opportunity. (I'll) do my best of my abilities to lead and expect everyone to do their jobs to the best of their abilities to accomplish our mission."

The 910th OSS deploys mission ready combat tactics, intelligence, aircrew flight equipment and current operations personnel in support of worldwide Department of Defense wartime, peacetime and humanitarian airlift as well as aerial spray requirements. The squadron maximizes airlift efficiency and aircrew survivability in achieving the 910th Airlift Wing's mission to Deploy, Deliver, Defend and the wing's vision of bring an Operational Force for Rapid Global Mobility with integrated and sustainable capabilities supporting our National Security.
