RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany -- Air Force Reserve Capt. Chris May walks away from a C-130H Hercules tactical cargo transport aircraft, assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing based at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, on the flightline here, October 23, 2009. Captain May and eight other Citizen Airmen from YARS have just completed an airlift mission delivering passengers and cargo to the country of Moldova, located in eastern Europe between Romania and the Ukraine. As Captain May walks from the aircraft, crew chiefs and aircraft maintenance personnel are preparing to conduct a basic post-flight inspection on the aircraft. The aircrew members completing this airlift mission are among more than 70 Servicemembers from the 910th AW attached to the 38th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, based here. The 38th EAS is supporting Operation Joint Enterprise by providing tactical airlift capability to locations in the U.S. Europe Command (EUROCOM), U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) theaters of operations. The aircraft returned to Ramstein Air Base after completing an airlift mission from Tel Aviv, Israel, hauling a cargo compartment full of supplies and equipment. Sergeant Sampson is checking the aircraft's fussealge, wing and stabilizer surfaces for cracks, defects, fluid leaks as well as burned-out exterior lights. The purpose of the basic post-flight inspection is to check the C-130 for any structural defects and mechanical or electrical failures or anything else not within operating standards for the aircraft.
