YARS a welcome presence at Scrappers home opener
Col. Reinhard Schmidt, commander of the 910th Airlift Wing, throws out the first pitch to begin the home opener of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers baseball team Wednesday, June 20, 2012. To celebrate the home opener and the Scrappers’ military appreciation night, the base color guard presented the colors during the Anthem, and a 910th Airlift Wing C-130H Hercules aircraft performed a low-level flyover. Air Force recruiters from YARS set up a display table on the concourse and made their presence known by parading Airman Andy, a large inflatable mascot, through the stands to greet fans. As fans entered the stadium, they were able to view a Humvee from the Marine Corps Reserve Landing Support Equipment Company, Youngstown.
