910 AW tests first AF high-speed deluge system at YARS
YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- This is the third of three photos showing the successful test of a Hgh-Speed Deluge System mounted above a work table in a muntions processing building here, March 24. The elapsed time between the first and thrid photos is approximately 100 milliseconds, or one-tenth of a second. In this third photo, water continues to pour from the deluge system to completely extinguish the test heat source. The system, the first of its kind installed on an U.S. Air Force installation, is designed to react to an extreme heat source on the table within one hundred milliseconds, or one-tenth of a second, by spraying approximately 300 gallons of water onto the table to extinguish any accidental ignition of munitions to protect personnel and property.
