Headed for the Pacific
In August 1945 Fred Kubli Jr.'s unit was sent to Marseille, France, to board a ship with all their equipment to head for Japan in anticipation of heavy casualties. Their ship made it to the Strait of Gibraltar when the war ended in Japan when the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb. Fred's ship ended up returning to Boston, Mass. U.S. Air Force courtesy photo.
