Youngstown C-130 picks up aeromedical evacuation Airmen from Westover Published July 15, 2014 By Staff Sgt. Kelly Goonan 439th Airlift Wing Public Affairs WESTOVER AIR RESERVE BASE, Mass. -- A Youngstown C-130 landed at Westover Air Reserve Base, Mass., July 14, to pick up 12 Airmen assigned to the 439th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron (AE). AE units provide tactical aeromedical evacuation for injured U.S. troops and regional Unified Commands. AE flight nurses and medical technicians have the capability to fly patients on over 5 different aircraft which include the C-17, KC-135, C-21, C-130, and the KC-10. The medical crew is fully self-contained and have their own oxygen that uses the aircraft's electrical system. See photos to the right.
