Educating the educators Published Nov. 8, 2018 By Senior Airman Noah J. Tancer 910th Airlift Wing Public Affairs YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- Local educators were invited to the 910th Airlift Wing by Youngstown Air Reserve Station recruiters on Nov. 7, 2018, to learn about the Air Force Reserve’s career options and college benefits available to their students. The educators were briefed by 910th AW Vice Commander Col. Joe Janik, YARS recruiters and an ASVAB and Ohio Means Jobs representative. The 910th AW public affairs office gave a short window tour of YARS before escorting the educators onto the flightline where they boarded one of the 910th AW’s C-130H Hercules. Participants got to see an aerial view of Northeastern United States from the flight deck windows, cargo bay windows, paratrooper door windows and, after buckling up tight and securing loose items, they got a rare view of Niagara Falls through the back of the aircraft. Many high school students are uninformed about the opportunities available in the Air Force Reserve. YARS hopes to counter the idea that entering college or the workforce are your only options immediately after high school. YARS recruiters continue to find new and innovative ways to bring the military option into the forefront of students’ minds.
